Though there are other, smaller mints throughout Austria, this primary mint is responsible for the bulk of coin production in the country.
Bavarian State Mint
The Bavarian State Mint was Germany’s first mint, even before it officially became its own country. During the Austrian occupation of the region in the early 1700s, the mint produced Austrian coins. When the Olympic Games were held in Munich in 1972, the mint even produced the medals that the winners were awarded. In 1999, the mint was responsible for producing the first Euro coins when this new currency was introduced, and it still produces them today.
La Casa de Moneda de Mexico
La Casa de Moneda is Mexico’s primary mint, and it is the oldest mint in all of North and South America. The silver Mexican peso coins produced at this mint back in its earliest days formed the foundation of many of the modern currencies we see today, including the American dollar, the Chinese yuan and the Japanese yen.
La Monnaie de Paris
